The Occupational Outlook Handbook, published by the United States Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, reports that computer and IT occupations will grow 12 percent by 2024. This increase in expected growth is faster than the average of all other occupations. Knowledge of cloud computing and the storage and collection of big data are expected to drive the demand for computer science jobs, making computer and technology ideal disciplines in which to earn a graduate degree. A large number of accredited colleges and universities now offer online master’s in computer science program options so that students can continue to work in the field while earning a graduate degree.

Ranking Methodology for the Most Affordable Online Master’s in Computer Science Programs

We created a list of the 50 most affordable online master’s in computer science, or closely related discipline like computer technology, information technology, or software engineering/systems offered by regionally and/or nationally accredited colleges and universities. The schools on this list are ranked in order of raw affordability. This list considers accreditation, affordability, and reputation based on regional, national, and/or program rankings from major publications like U.S. News and World Report. We only considered schools with a graduate tuition (including fees) lower than $25,000 annually. We looked at 217 accredited colleges and universities listed by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) College Navigator that offered at least one online computer science graduate program.

Below is our list of the top 50 most affordable online master’s in computer science or closely related programs.

#50 – Hofstra University

Online Master’s in Computer Science
