The New Jersey Institute of Technology offers more than 50 majors and degree programs for undergrads. It has a strong reputation for its technology programs that prepare students for doing research projects and advanced work at the graduate level. Some of these programs combine technical studies with other fields such as the law, technology and culture program. Students who choose this major will learn how technology and culture play a role in the laws established by the courts. In the business and information systems programs, students look at how computer systems affect the business industry.
Students can also enroll in more traditional undergraduate programs such as communication and media. This program teaches students how to use communications tools on the web and can prepare them for working as content producers on the web. In the marketing program, students get the chance to work with prospective clients and create marketing campaigns that they can use in their portfolios. More than 50 majors are also available for graduate students at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The institute offers an architecture program that allows students to use their design and construction skills on projects of a larger scale. In the Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, students can use their executive experience as they take online and evening courses. About the New Jersey Institute of Technology
The New Jersey Institute of Technology is a public institute of higher learning that offers degree and certificate programs in technical and traditional fields. Founded in 1885 as the Newark Technical School, it had an original enrollment of only 88 students. The engineering programs that it offered became quite popular and served as the foundation of the Newark College of Engineering, which was the name that the institute adopted in 1930. It would keep this name through 1975 before becoming the New Jersey Institute of Technology or NJIT.
NIT has a strong reputation for both the programs that it offers and for the resources it gives students once they graduate. U.S. News and World Report ranked four of the online graduate programs offered by the institute among the top 100 in the nation and ranked it as the 106th best college in the United States and as one of the top colleges in the world. New Jersey Institute of Technology Accreditation Details
Incoming and returning NJIT students can get financial aid because the institute has regional accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). That accreditation allows students to use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and get financial aid while in school. The engineering programs offered by the institute have accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), while the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accredited the school’s graduate program in public health. NJIT also has full accreditation for its business and business administration programs.
New Jersey Institute of Technology Application Requirements
Undergrads can apply by one of the two early action deadlines that the institute has, which are November 15 and December 15. It has a rolling admissions policy after the first of March. This means that NJIT will only accept new students if it has not yet filled the spots in the freshmen class. NJIT asks that students use the Common Application and either have a fee waiver or pay its application fee. They will also need to submit a letter of recommendation, ACT/SAT score and a high school transcript. Any student applying to one of the art programs will also need to submit a portfolio.
Graduate students will need to complete the NJIT application, which requires both a username and a password that students set up with the application portal. They have until June first to submit an application to a traditional degree program and August first to apply to an online program. Students will need to submit their transcripts and any other required information, which may include letters of recommendation, an essay, personal statement or graduate entrance exam score. It typically takes 15 days for the institute to process the applications that students submit. Prospective graduate students should also look at any perquisites that a program has. They may need to take one or more classes at NJIT before beginning a full degree program.
Tuition and Financial Aid
At NJIT, undergrads pay $17,674 per year for tuition and fees if they are also residents of New Jersey. Undergrads who are not from New Jersey pay $33,386 per year. The institute estimates that undergrads will also pay $12,995 for room and board, though it offers different plans that can affect this rate. Graduate students pay the same amount to live on the NJIT campus. Traditional graduate students pay $23,828 per year for tuition and fees as New Jersey residents and $33,744 per year as nonresidents. Grad students pay less for any online courses they want to take. Residents pay $3,366 for each online class they take, while nonresidents pay $4,839 for each of their online classes.
As long as students use the FAFSA and submit it prior to the application deadline, they can get a financial aid package that includes funds from the government and the institute. Undergrads with a grade point average of at least 3.0 qualify for one of the NJIT scholarships. The institute also offers grants for students who show need when they apply for aid. Students may get one or more of the five different loans that the government offers and qualify for work-study too. Both the institute and the government offer work-study programs.
