Kennesaw State University offers accredited undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in a wide range of disciplines to more than 35,000 students on two Atlanta-area campuses and online.

One of Kennesaw’s top grad programs is one that awards graduates a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education. Open only to current teachers, this program asks students to submit proof that they have their licenses before enrolling. This is a 13-month program that helps students improve their teaching skills. They learn how to work effectively with kids in preschool up through fifth grade.

Another graduate program available online is the university’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) – Leadership in Nursing. While the university offers different MSN programs, this is the only one that puts an emphasis on the importance of leading in the nursing profession. Students will learn about the technology used by healthcare professionals and how they can use those products in their own lives. They will take courses that cover subjects such as nursing ethics and healthcare policies. The program also teaches students how to allocate the resources available to them. A similar program allows students to pick a concentration in nursing administration.

Though many students enroll in MBA programs every year, undergrads can get a great start in a Bachelor of Business Administration program. Also called a BBA, this program teaches students the fundamental information that they need to work in almost any business position or field. The university offers a BBA program through its Coles College of Business. Some of the graduates of this program use their skills to open and run their own companies, but graduates can also use their skills to work in project or supply chain management. KSU offers one of the only online BBA programs in the nation with a management concentration.

Undergrads can also earn a psychology degree from the university online. The Bachelor of Science in Psychology program that is available features a number of science classes and some research courses. Students will take at least 36 credits of courses at or above the 3300 level, including Psychology of Prejudice and Privilege and Theories of Personality. Though there is a capstone experience requirement, students can do an internship or take a seminar class. Kennesaw State University also allows online psychology majors to take an honors course to fulfill this requirement, but only honors students have access to this option.

The University System of Georgia consists of multiple campuses across the state including Kennesaw State University. Also called KSU, Kennesaw State opened in the 1960s as Kennesaw Junior College. Similar to a community college, it offered two-year degree programs and programs designed for students who wanted to earn a full bachelor’s degree in the future. To keep students from moving to other schools, it became Kennesaw State College in the 1970s and added bachelor’s programs of its own. After serving as Kennesaw State College for a few years, the school became KSU.

Many people know KSU for its connection to the aerospace industry. Its campus is home to the Spaceship Earth sculpture, and its library displays artifacts donated by a real astronaut. KSU now ranks as the third largest school in Georgia with an enrollment of more than 35,000 students. More than 6,000 of those are graduate students who earn master’s and doctorate degrees and graduate certificates from the university. U.S. News & World Report included KSU on a list of the top up and coming colleges in the country.

Kennesaw State University Accreditation Details

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools granted accreditation to Kennesaw State University. As this is a type of regional accreditation, students can submit the FAFSA to apply for financial aid and use the aid that the university and the government give them. Regional accreditation also makes it easy for those who attended college in the past to transfer their credits to a new program. KSU has a list of programs with specialty accreditation available on its website, which includes programs in nursing and business.

Kennesaw State University Application Requirements

KSU offers both undergrad and graduate programs online, but students applying to those programs will use different applications based on their levels. There is a graduate application and an application for undergrads. Both applications ask some of the same questions, including whether the student has a high school or college degree and what classes they took. They will also add contact information that allows the university to contact them. Undergrads may need to provide an official standardized test score too.

Graduate students may find that there are other admissions requirements in place for them. Many of the online grad programs ask for a resume and a writing sample. The writing sample can come from a paper that a student wrote in a college class. They may need to supply an official standardized test score from the GRE or a similar exam and write a short essay too. This essay usually asks them to write out their career goals and what they hope to get out of their studies. Some KSU programs ask for one to three letters of recommendation also.

Tuition and Financial Aid

KSU undergrads pay around $1,034 per credit hour as a Georgia resident and around $1,492 per credit hour as a nonresident. This rate includes the general tuition charged by the university and all its fees. Graduate students pay a rate of between $1,143 and $1,898 per credit hour based on whether they are nonresidents or residents. KSU offers a discount for online students that allows all students to pay the same rate regardless of where they live. Online students pay $463 per credit hour as an undergrad and $588 per credit hour as a grad student.

Undergrads can apply for grants and scholarships from the university. Once they complete the FAFSA and the university looks over it, KSU will create a financial aid package for the student. This package may include some need-based scholarships because of the financial need of the student. Merit-based scholarships require that students fill out a separate application. KSU offers more than 40 scholarships that include some for minority students and certain majors. Grad students can also use the FAFSA, which will determine if they get PLUS or traditional loans from the government. Alternative loans and parental PLUS loans are also available for all types of students at Kennesaw State University.
