About North Carolina State University

North Carolina State University is a public university and a member of the University of North Carolina System. Established in 1887 as the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, it served as one of the first A&M schools in the region. It became North Carolina State College in 1918 and North Carolina State University in 1962. Some call the university North Carolina State or NCSU.

The flagship campus of NCSU is in Raleigh and close to some of the largest employers in the Research Triangle. This gives students plenty of opportunities to do co-ops and internships with those employers. It also has a biomedical campus that oversees its medical programs and is part of the North Carolina Research Campus, which offers special programs for students and faculty members. North Carolina State ranks as one of the top colleges in the United States, according to U.S. News and World Report, Washington Monthly and ARWU. Some of those same groups rank it globally too.

North Carolina State University Application Requirements

Both the Common Application and the Coalition Application are available for students applying to North Carolina State. The university allows undergrads to submit the application as early as August but has two deadlines that let students apply for early action or a regular decision. There is an $85 application fee that all students pay unless they qualify for a fee waiver. They will also need to report their test scores and provide their transcripts. NCSU may request an official test score at a later date. The university’s arts and other programs will also require a portfolio of the student’s past work.

Students applying to the NCSU Graduate School have until March first to submit an application for the fall semester and October first for the spring semester. While the MBA program requires a GMAT or GRE score, most programs do not ask for an entrance exam score. All programs also require transcripts to make sure that students have their undergraduate degrees. The MBA program asks for only two letters of recommendation but also has an interview requirement.
