The Florida Institute of Technology is a private university located in Melbourne, Florida that was established in 1958. The university is a space-grant institution with an endowment of more than $82 million. Approximately 6,400 students attend the school, which has a main campus in Melbourne of 130 acres. Sports teams at the school are nicknamed the Panthers, and students play in NCAA Division II games.
The institute was once known as Brevard Engineering College and was created to support the work of NASA. Classes were first held at the airport at a municipal building that was once part of the Nava Air Station in Melbourne. The school would move into its first official building in 1961 with the dedication of laboratories and classrooms, as well as a library that was finished in 1965.

Part-time students and summer classes are charged at a rate of $1,170 per credit hour. Students who enroll in more than 20 credits also pay $1,170 per credit hour. Undergraduate programs offered through Florida Tech Online are $510 per credit hour.
Students in graduate and doctoral programs will pay a rate based on the program they enter. Programs in the College of Aeronautics are charged at $1,241 per credit hour with the Doctor of Aviation program tuition costing $1,050 per credit hour. College of Business students pay $600 per credit hour for the master’s and MBA programs or $1,288 for the Doctor of Business Administration program.
Financial aid at Florida Institute of Technology is available through the federal student loan program, and students must submit their FASFA form to qualify. The school will determine the amount of loan the student will receive based on federal guidelines, and the student’s demonstrated financial need and expected family contribution.
