Students can choose from dozens of online and traditional degree programs at Bellevue University. The university offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs in fields such as communication studies, web development, security management, and graphic design. Only a few of these programs are only available on the Bellevue campus, including the biology and health and human performance programs. Those programs require labs and other work that students cannot do over the internet. Some of the undergrad options that are only available from the university online include its health studies, professional psychology, management, and child protection and juvenile justice programs.
All of the university’s graduate programs are available online, and some are available on its campus too. The business and professional communication program focuses on the ways in which people interact and communicate with each other in professional ways, while the clinical counseling program looks at how counselors can help those in need. This program includes fieldwork and internships that ask students to work with patients struggling with different problems. Some of the other degree programs for graduate students include human resource strategic management, strategic management, leadership and coaching, and justice administration and crime management.
Bellevue University also offers one of the country’s only doctoral programs in human capital management. This is only available online through the university and does not include any residency work. Students will complete three learning modules and then do a dissertation. Each module focuses on a different area of study such as research and management. Only after taking and passing a comprehensive exam can students submit their dissertation proposals and get approval to work on those projects. Bellevue University requires that students present their dissertations and orally defend their work before they can graduate.

Bellevue University is a private university named after the city of Bellevue, Nebraska. Established in 1996 as Bellevue College, it opened as a specialized school that offered programs solely for adult students. As the economy and needs of the city changed, its founders realized that adults needed a way to go back to school and both start and finish their studies. Though the university now accepts traditional students who just finished high school, its study body primarily consists of working adults. Roughly 80% of the undergrads enrolled in its programs are at least 25 years of age, and most of those students have full-time jobs. Though other schools opening in the area led to the university experiencing some financial problems, it managed to stay open as those other schools shut down.
The university now has full accreditation for its degree programs and specialized accreditation for its business programs. Students often choose Bellevue because it offers convenient courses that meet around their obligations and schedules, including long classes that meet on weekend days and courses that meet at night. The university now offers a wide range of online courses too and some programs that allow students to complete all their degree requirements on the web. Including online and traditional students, Bellevue University has an enrollment of more than 3,000 graduate/doctoral students and more than 6,000 undergrads.
Bellevue University Accreditation Details
The International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) granted Bellevue University accreditation for all its programs in business and management. This includes the university’s MBA program and all the undergraduate business options too. It also has accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS), which is why returning and incoming students can apply for financial aid. This accreditation also lets Bellevue accept credits that students want to transfer.
Bellevue University Application Requirements
Bellevue University does not have an application deadline and allows students to submit their applications whenever they finish them. The university will process each application and make an admissions decision for the following semester, though students can also apply for a later semester and list that start date on the application. Undergrads applying to any program must pay a $50 application fee, though they can apply for a waiver if they need one. They will also need to have either a high school diploma or a GED and an academic transcript. The university does not require a transcript from those applying with a GED but does ask for a GED score. Those who want to transfer should also submit transcripts from their former colleges. Bellevue will accept all credits earned from an associate degree program.
Both prospective graduate students and undergrads can use an online request form to speak with an admissions counselor. Graduate students need a bachelor’s degree and a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all their classes. The university also accepts those who maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher in the last two years or 60 credits of courses taken. Some programs ask for an application essay or a statement of purpose that allows students to discuss their reasons for attending Bellevue and how their past experiences will help them in the program and later. Select programs also require up to three letters of recommendation from professional and academic references who can speak about the student’s work.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergrads taking traditional classes at Bellevue University pay $298 per credit hour, but those in an online program pay $415 per credit hour. Students taking classes on a military base and those who are in the military pay $250 per credit hour. Any student who wants to receive prior learning credits must take assessment tests and pay $875, which allows them to earn up to three credit hours. All graduate students pay the same rate of $575 per credit hour.
The prior learning assessments offered by the university help students save money because they can earn credits for past experiences and reduce the number of courses they would otherwise take. Students can also watch videos online that show them how to get financial aid and what types of financing they can use. Bellevue accepts the GI Bill and any external scholarships that students receive. It also allows students to use the FAFSA and get financial aid for both online and traditional programs. Students can use any grants or loans to pay their costs, including alternative and PLUS loans.
