The University of Northern Colorado is comprised of five academic colleges that include the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, the College of Performing and Visual Arts, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Monfort College of Business, and the College of Natural and Health Sciences. Students may attend classes in Colorado or participate in the university’s Extended Campus option online.

The school’s student-faculty ratio is 17:1, and more than 38 percent of its classes are offered with fewer than 20 students enrolled.

Further, there are three separate programs in educational leadership with options that include an Ed.D in Director of Gifted Education, an Ed.D. in Principal (K-12) Licensure, and an Ed.D. in Special Administration Education. About the University of Northern Colorado
The University of Northern Colorado is a school with more than 12,000 students with a campus in Greeley, Colorado. The university began its life as the State Normal School of Colorado when it was established in 1889. There are extension campuses in the cities of Colorado Springs, Loveland, and Denver. The university’s colors are gold and navy blue, and students are nicknamed the Bears with an official mascot named Klawz.
The university operates a radio station known as UNC Student Radio, which broadcasts continuously 24/7 on the internet. The station plays student-hosted shows and pre-recorded music. A newspaper called “The Mirror” has also been published for more than a century by the university, and about 80 students are employed at the newspaper each year.
University of Northern Colorado Accreditation Details
The University of Northern Colorado first obtained regional accreditation in 1916 and has maintained that status from the Higher Learning Commission since that time. The last time the university underwent its once-a-decade accreditation process was in 2015. The university is also accredited by some additional agencies tasked with grading the quality of individual programs and subject areas.
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business has accredited the Monfort College of Business. Programs in accounting and business administration are accredited. The State of Colorado has also recognized the institution as one where students may earn baccalaureate and specialized graduate degrees.
University of Northern Colorado Application Requirements
For most applicants, the deadline for applying to the University of Northern Colorado is May 31 for the fall and September 30 for the spring. However, students should check with their intended program because some of the graduate degrees have different application deadlines. The application fee at the University of Northern Colorado is $60 and is non-refundable.
During the application process, students must submit transcripts, prove English proficiency if they’re an international applicant, and meet the minimum GPA score of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for undergraduate programs and 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for graduate programs. Graduate degree applicants must submit official GRE scores, and all of the doctoral programs at the university require letters of recommendation.
Tuition and Financial Aid
When all fees and tuition costs are included, the per-credit rate for Colorado residents in undergraduate programs at the University of Northern Colorado is $415.35. Half-time students in six credits will pay $2,492.10. Full-time students in 12 credits will pay $4,794.26, and students in 15 credits will pay $4,993.40. Meanwhile, non-residents will pay $902.85 per credit, which means a full-time cost of $10,644.26 for 12 credits.
For graduate students, the rate is based on the program a student pursues. For example, master’s programs in areas like geographic info science, innovation and pedagogy, and multilingual education are $560 per credit hour. For students in programs like accounting, earth science, and nursing, the cost per credit hour is $630. For non-residents in graduate programs, the rate per credit hour ranges from $597 for the online MBA to $1,150 for programs in areas like English, gerontology, and mental health counseling.
Financial aid is available from the Office of Financial Aid, and students may qualify for loans, student employment, scholarships, or grants, as well as a combination of all aid types. Students are directed to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if they want to qualify for aid at the university. There are several scholarships available at UNC that include those for first-year students, transfer students, and graduate students.
Some scholarships don’t require any additional applications, and students are automatically considered for those awards. Students who graduate from eligible high schools may receive the $2,000 Greeley Promise Scholarship. Students who have a biological parent who graduated from the university may receive a $500 UNC Legacy Scholarship. Students with high academic achievement may also qualify for the Trustee Scholarship, Presidential Scholarship, or Provost Scholarship when they attend the University of Northern Colorado.
