The University of Colorado-Denver offers degrees at the undergraduate, graduate and certificate levels. Students can obtain these degrees in person at the UC Denver site in the Mile High City or at the campus in Aurora. Students may also choose to study online.
UC Denver is divided into nine schools and colleges. These consist of:

Through one of these schools, students at UC Denver can explore majors like architecture, music performance, nursing, finance, history, special education, mechanical engineering, criminal justice, and many others.
The UC Denver online campus offers 350 courses and 14 degrees. Students can take online classes as part of their regular, full-time schedule. They can also choose to pursue online learning if they simply want to take a few classes to increase skills and knowledge. Many students choose to earn undergraduate or graduate degrees online. Many more take online courses in order to complete graduate certification programs.
Undergraduate studies from the UC Denver online campus include bachelor of arts programs in communication, criminal justice, individually structured major integrated studies, ethnic studies, psychology, public service sociology and English writing, rhetoric, and technology. Undergrads may also earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an accounting major, a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Relations or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Online graduate students may choose to earn master’s degrees in criminal justice, public administration, public health, engineering, clinical pharmacy, finance, information systems, nursing or a number of education-related fields. Students may also seek an MBA through online learning. UC Denver offers doctorate degrees in pharmacy, nursing, and education.
Certificate programs are very popular online. UC Denver has 18 online certificate programs. These certificates are offered in areas like cultural diversity, early literacy, maternal and child health and English as a second language. There are even more certificate programs available for those who choose to take classes on campus. UC Denver offers more than 50 certificate programs, from accounting to women’s healthcare.
About the University of Colorado-Denver
The University of Colorado was established in 1876 with its flagship campus located in Boulder. The Denver campus was founded in 1912 by Jonathan Hill in order to function as the university system’s department of correspondence and extension. Eventually, the school merged with the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center to create the large presence that exists today.
UC Denver is highly ranked by a number of publications in multiple areas. U.S. News and World Report ranks UC Denver as the fifth university in the country for primary care in medicine. Billboard ranked the university as number 11 in the United States for its music business program. The university is also ranked 34th overall by Forbes.
University of Colorado-Denver Accreditation Details
The University of Colorado-Denver is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The NCA provides accreditation for all programs at all levels throughout the University of Colorado system. This accreditation also approves all programs that are offered online.
Individual programs of study may have additional accreditations from specific boards that govern those areas. For instance, the nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
University of Colorado-Denver Application Requirements
Undergraduates can apply to UC Denver online. Students who attend the physical campus are expected to be ranked in the top half of their graduating classes. They must also complete all Colorado Higher Education Admission Requirements, or HEAR. These requirements are as follows:
- Three years of mathematics at algebra I or higher
- Four years of English
- Three years of social studies including at least one year of U.S. history
- Three years of natural science
- Two electives
- One year of foreign language
While these requirements apply to all students, those entering specific fields may have additional needs. These might include test scores, letters of recommendation, specific applications and more.
Students interested in studying through the UC Denver online campus may have less stringent guidelines for admission. Both online and traditional students must also supply any college entrance test scores and official high school transcripts. The school recommends that all students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, at the time of application. The FAFSA should be completed by all students regardless of their perceived ability to pay for education.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The cost of attending UC Denver online is $330 per credit hour for Colorado residents or $509 per hour for out-of-state students. Graduate costs vary but are generally slightly more than the cost for undergraduate programs. Students can apply financial aid to the cost of attending an online campus. Financial aid may come in the form of grants, scholarships or loans. Scholarships offered to online students generally consider merit and financial need, though these factors can regularly change. Any student interested in pursuing financial aid offers should directly contact the university’s financial aid office.
Traditional students at UC Denver are charged a flat fee of $9,782 per year for tuition. This amount assumes that the student will be enrolled on a full-time basis with 12 hours per semester. The figure does not include the cost of living, course materials or any related fees. Students from outside of Colorado must pay $26,047 per year for full-time education. As with online study, students should complete the FAFSA and pursue as many scholarships as they can in order to offset the cost of attending the university.
