The Walsh School of Foreign Service offers a Bachelor of Arts in Culture and Politics that is available on campus only. Students are presented with questions related to culture, knowledge, and power, gaining a complex understanding of the history, terms used in, and the impacts of each. The program is designed for those who wish to pursue an in-depth exploration of humanities that can be used to complement other disciplines. Students gain a foundation in methods used to analyze cultural and political materials. They must also complete a senior thesis as part of the curriculum.
The School of Continuing Studies offers a Master’s in Applied Intelligence that is available full-time on campus or part-time online. The program prepares students to navigate today’s complex intelligence landscape. It focuses on four key sectors which include homeland security, cyber intelligence, law enforcement, and competitive business intelligence. Students gain an understanding of the intelligence space as well as practices related to risk assessment, analytical techniques, and intelligence.
The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences offers a Graduate Certificate in Biohazardous Threat Agents and Emerging Infectious Disease. The program is a 12-credit certificate program that focuses on critical concepts of biological threats to health security. It covers biological threat agents as well as the future of global health security, bioterrorism, and homeland security. Students gain an understanding of preparedness and response to biohazardous threats as well.
About Georgetown University
Founded by John Carroll in 1789, Georgetown University is the oldest Jesuit university in the country. Carroll, who was appointed Archbishop of Baltimore in 1808, secured 60 acres of land overlooking the small village of Georgetown with classes beginning in 1792.
During the Civil War, enrollment dropped to just 17 students and almost led to the closure of the University. Students and faculty enlisted to serve on both sides of the war and several buildings were turned into temporary hospitals after the Second Battle of Bull Run. The colors blue and gray were chosen after the war in an effort to reunite the two sides.
Today, there are over 19,000 students enrolled at Georgetown University. US News & World Report ranks the school 22nd among national universities and fifth in best colleges for veterans.
Georgetown University Accreditation Details
Georgetown University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Accreditation includes a peer-review process used to confirm that programs offered continue to meet the standards the Commission has determined indicate excellence in higher education. During the review process, if any areas are determined to need improvement are addressed by the University as quickly as possible. Georgetown University Application Requirements
Applicants to Georgetown University who have not earned college credit after high school graduation must submit a school report which includes a counselor evaluation and official transcript. Applicants must also submit official SAT or ACT scores. Applicants who have earned college must complete the Recommendation Request Forms for the Secondary School Report, Dean’s Report and Professor’s Report. In addition, applicants must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
In order to apply for the Master in Applied Intelligence, applicants must provide a current resume and statement of purpose. Two letters of recommendation are also required along with official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. No standardized test scores are required.
Applicants to the Certificate in Biohazardous Threat Agents & Emerging Infectious Diseases must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. A current resume, three letters of recommendation along with an academic statement of purpose must be provided. GRE scores are optional but strongly recommended.
Georgetown University Tuition and Fees
Undergraduate tuition at Georgetown University is $2,230 per credit hour. Tuition for the Master in Applied Intelligence is $1,441 per credit hour and for the Master’s in Applied Intelligence tuition is $2,139 per credit hour. More than half of the undergraduates at Georgetown University receive some type of financial aid. The mission of the Office of Financial Aid is to make it financially possible for every admitted applicant to attend Georgetown University in an effort to recruit, retain and graduate individuals who are talented and diverse in order to meet the needs of a complex job market.
Each student is required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) regardless of income and the form must be renewed each year. Undergraduate students may be offered grants, scholarships, or loans, as well as work-study programs. Graduate students may be offered fellowships or assistantships. They are also encouraged to complete grant and scholarship applications for outside organizations that may be able to offset their tuition costs.
