Founded in 1847, Earlham College is a small private college that has an affiliation with the Quakers. The Quakers actually built the campus as a boarding school and preparatory academy for the children of its members. The school operated for more than a decade as a prep school before adding a college program to its curriculum and adopting the name Earlham College. After becoming a college, the school began accepting students from other religious denominations. Though Earlham retained its affiliation with the Quakers, it changed its catalog and rules over the years to make the campus more friendly for all types of students.

Located in Richmond, Indiana, this historic campus is home to one of the only Quaker seminaries in the world. The college encourages students to participate in service learning programs and other programs, and more than 70% of its students spend at least one semester working or studying abroad. Earlham also has a strong reputation in the academic field. It ranks among the top 30 in terms of the number of its students who enroll in graduate or PhD programs, and it ranks among the top 10 of colleges that produce PhD candidates every year. Many of its education, business and science programs rank among the nation’s best as well. Earlham College has an enrollment of just over 1,000 students, including students in its undergrad, graduate and PhD programs.

Earlham College Accreditation Details

If you want to enter a graduate program after finishing your undergrad studies, you need to attend a college that has regional accreditation. Earlham College has regional accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS). NSACS does not simply award a college accreditation and then walk away. This organization will check with the school every 10 years and perform an extensive review to ensure that its accreditation is still in good standing. Earlham College passed each of its renewals with the NCACS. The college also has specialty accreditation from the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools.

Earlham College Application Requirements

To apply to Earlham College as an incoming freshmen, you must use the Common Application. This is a standalone website that has applications available for colleges across the United States. Earlham recommends that those with a poor transcript also submit an ACT or SAT test score.
