Since being initially founded in 1916 by four students interested in studying the Bible for missionary preparation, Crown College has evolved dramatically into a major comprehensive four-year private Christian liberal arts institution affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Today, Crown College provides a biblical-based education to a close-knit community of nearly 1,300 students with a student-faculty ratio of 14:1. Crown College Accreditation Details
Crown College has met all education standards to become fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (NCA), one of the recognized accrediting bodies for schools in the Midwestern region. Crown College has also been recognized by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education (OHE) as an approved degree-granting institution. Furthermore, nursing programs at Crown College have been given the stamp of approval by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) for excellence. Crown College holds membership to the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU), Council for Independent Colleges (CIC), and Minnesota Association of Colleges for Teacher Education too.
Crown College Application Requirements
Though Crown College has a rather high acceptance rate of 78 percent, there’s still a number of admissions requirements that students must fulfill before getting an acceptance letter. Eligible applicants must have already received a high school diploma or GED equivalent with an acceptable number of subject area courses. Crown College generally requires a minimum overall GPA of 2.0, but some majors mandate a higher GPA for acceptance. Prospective students should also have scored at least an 18 on the ACT or 880 on the SAT. Extra-curricular involvement, achievements, moral character, and commitment to faith are also considered.
During the rolling admissions process, students can submit an online or paper application to Crown College’s Office of Admissions. All application packets must include:
• Official high school or college transcripts
• Satisfactory ACT and/or SAT score results
• A signed Community Covenant
• Completed Spiritual Life essays
• The non-refundable application fee of $25 for undergraduates and $20 for graduates
Tuition and Financial Aid
As one of the most affordable private Christian school in the U.S. Midwest, Crown College is dedicated to giving all students a chance for gaining career-developing and faith-fostering education at a reasonable price. At this time, online undergraduate students will pay $399 per credit hour with a $100 technology fee each semester. Online students enrolled in graduate programs will be expected to pay $460 per credit hour with a $100 technology fee each semester. Crown students typically spend an additional $500 per semester for textbooks and other learning supplies. That being said, nearly 98 percent of students at Crown College receive additional financial aid to cover these expenses.
After completing a FAFSA form, Crown College students will receive an award letter showing their eligibility for any federal, state, and institutional financial aid. Students can borrow what they need from Direct Subsidized, Direct Unsubsidized, Direct Parent PLUS, Federal Perkins, or private student loans. Online students may also be eligible for receiving the need-based Federal Pell Grant or Minnesota State Grant. At Crown College, there’s also a Military Scholarship offered for registered service members in online learning with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Online students could also apply for the Alumni Referral Scholarship if they’ve been referred to Crown by a graduate.
Online Degrees Available
In a collaborative learning environment, the online degree programs at Crown College have been designed to give students a practical approach for learning and applying Christian perspectives in their chosen field within their busy schedules. Without any required trips to Minnesota, Crown online students will build rich relationships with professors, be assigned a faculty advisor, and interact virtually with students from diverse backgrounds. Crown College currently offers three associate’s degrees, seven bachelor’s degrees, seven minors, one certificate, and five master’s degrees fully online. Among the undergraduate programs are:
B.S. Christian Ministry
Building on a strong core in biblical studies, the B.S. Christian Ministry program at Crown is focused on preparing students to serve as leaders of churches, missionary agencies, and human service organizations around the global. In this 125-credit online program, students take courses related to systematic theology, ministry management, evangelism, worship, human development, counseling care, biblical history, and ministry leadership. Online students can also choose to enter the 4+1 program to earn their BSCM and a Master of Arts in Christian Studies (MACS) within just five years.
B.S. Disaster and Emergency Management
As an accredited online program, the B.S. Disaster and Emergency Management aims to prepare students as emergency management professionals to organize Christ-oriented relief efforts in response to super storms, manmade attacks, and other disasters. For a total of 125 credits, students are required to take courses in public communication, Christian thought, crisis intervention, emergency preparedness, disaster recovery, operations management, hazards mitigation, community development, emergency relief, and American government. Graduates will be well-equipped for applying their management expertise in strategic planning from a Christian perspective to the crisis management field.
B.S. Psychology and Counseling
From a faith-based perspective, the B.S. Psychology and Counseling program is delivered in a 100 percent online format for students seeking to build a solid foundation in psychological theories and counseling techniques. Within the 125-credit curriculum, students take courses in literary analysis, Christian faith, ethical leadership, statistics, psychology, human development, personality, counseling, psychotherapy, human diversity, social psychology, group dynamics, marriage/family therapy, and crisis intervention. Crown College also offers students in this program the option to receive a Drug and Alcohol Counseling minor.
