About Webster University

Webster University is a private and nonprofit university that dates back to the 1910s. Established by the Sisters of Loretto in 1915, it was one of the first colleges in the United States to offer programs strictly for women. Most of the other colleges for women at the time were on the East Coast, but Loretto College allowed them to continue their education without moving as far away from home. It gained attention during the Civil Rights Era because the college called for integration. The Sisters of Loretto allowed the college to admit an African American student during this era, which led to a rapid rise in the enrollment of minority students. This also led to other colleges in the area accepting minority students.

Later called Webster College, it expanded its curriculum and changed its policy to accept male students. It then became Webster University and began opening new campuses across the country. There are now more than 50 campuses in the United States and 10 campuses overseas. Several of its campuses are either on or near military bases and offer classes for both military students and civilians. Those campuses helped the alumni network of Webster University grow to include more than 100,000 former students.

Webster University Accreditation Details

Thanks to the regional and program accreditation held by Webster University, the university offers a number of opportunities for its students. Its regional accreditation comes from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), which granted Webster accreditation through its North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS). Among the programs offered by Webster that have accreditation include those in nursing, music, and education.

Webster University Application Requirements

With multiple admissions events held on the Webster campus and on locations across the country each year, the university makes it easy for students to find out the requirements for admission. The university gives priority to students who graduate within the top 50% in their high school classes and have a score of 1000/21 on the SAT/ACT. Students also need to maintain a B average while in high school. After using the university’s application, prospective freshmen need to submit official or unofficial transcripts and official test scores. The university can provide students with an admissions counselor to guide them through the application process.

Both graduate and doctoral students need to meet the same requirements, though doctoral students need two degrees to apply. These students need a minimum GPA of 2.5 in each program they completed. Conditional acceptance generally goes to those with a strong background in the field who have a GPA of between 2.0 and 2.5. Webster asks that students both submit the graduate school application online and pay a $50 fee. They will also provide at least one letter of recommendation and a current/valid resume. The university accepts letters provided by both academic references and employers.
