1. American Assembly for Men in Nursing
Many of the best scholarships for male nurses come from the American Assembly for Men in Nursing (AAMN). The AAMN offers the Jadeh Marselis-Moore Student Nurse Essay Contest, the MurseWorld Student Nurse Essay Contest (murse being an affectionate term for male nurse), the $500 AAMN Foundation Student Nurse Essay Contest, $1000 AAMN Foundation Student Nurse Essay Contest. Among these options is one for male nursing students of every background and academic stage.
2. Gates Millennium Scholars Program
Males of minority face the most challenges to building successful nursing careers. The four remaining scholarships are therefore focused on helping minority nursing students. The Gates Millennium Scholars Program rewards nursing students who have overcome minority barriers to demonstrate high academic achievement and natural leadership skills. Applicants must already be enrolled in nursing degree programs and hold GPAs of 3.3 and higher.
3. National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations
The National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations has partnered with the health insurance provider AETNA and the National Black Nurses Association to create these two scholarships. Each comes with a strict set of application requirements, but each is also generous enough to warrant putting in the work!
4. National Association of Hispanic Nurses
The National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) seeks to honor and support students from one of the most currently challenged ethical backgrounds in the nation. Their scholarship program not only offers several financial awards but also the opportunity to attend the NAHN Annual Conference. This resume boost and network potential could set students far ahead on the path to successful careers.
5. Philippine Nurses Association of America, Inc.
The Philippine Nurses Association of America, Inc. offers financial assistance to nursing students of Filipino background. The scholarship is specifically for students who have made it to the graduate level of study and hold GPAs of 3.0 or higher. The application process includes writing an essay and obtaining two letters of recommendation, and the payout is $1000.
While many of these scholarships are not exclusively offered to male students, male students are especially encouraged to apply. It is important that men in nursing be recognized as not only qualified for this career path, but also in need of equity to achieve it.
