Founded in 1902, the University of Indianapolis is a church-affiliated private school. It is connected to the United Methodist Church and was known as Indiana Central College until 1975. Affectionately nicknamed “UIndy,” this school’s main campus sits on Indianapolis’s south side.

Students who apply to the University of Indianapolis can apply for degree programs at the associate, bachelor, master and doctoral levels. The school has nine colleges in total, including the School of Business, the School of Nursing, Health Sciences, the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education. In all, there are 82 undergraduate majors, as well as 27 master-level programs and five doctoral programs.

The university averages about 5,500 undergrad students and 1,400 graduate students on its main campus. Students come from 44 US states and almost 70 countries. Twenty-five percent of its students are minority or international students. A little over 80% of its freshman class lives on campus. The student-to-faculty ratio is 13:1. More than 600 full- and part-time faculty are employed to teach students at all levels.

The Indianapolis campus centers around 5.2 acres of green space, an area called Smith Mall. It features lush lawns, water gardens, 80 bald cypress trees, and water gardens. Also of interest is the partial arch of the amphitheater on the grounds.

The University of Indianapolis is a member of Division II in the NCAA. The teams in this division mostly belong to the Great Lakes Valley Athletic Conference.

University of Indianapolis Application Requirements

The University of Indianapolis welcomes a wide variety of students, including traditional students, as well as veterans and summer or temporary students. Would-be University of Indianapolis students can apply online. They must pay an application fee of $25 in order to apply. Those who would like to live in campus housing must apply by May 1st.

The university offers students a rolling deadline. Students who will be submitting SAT or ACT scores must do so by the 1st of August. The minimum GPA for students who apply to the school is 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. International students are required to submit the results of their IELTS test: For these students, the school will accept a TOEFL instead of an SAT or ACT score.

Students have the option of applying to the school via its online portal or via the common app. Eighty-one percent of students who apply to the school are accepted.
