Christ-Centered Degree Programs at Union University

Union University offers associate degrees, degree completion programs, bachelor’s and master’s degrees, professional programs, doctoral degrees, and certificates. There are 78 undergraduate degree programs at this school.

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting prepares students for careers as professional accountants but does not contain enough educational units to allow them to sit for the CPA. For that reason, students apply to the master’s accounting programs during their senior years. The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration can be earned as a BSBA in Economics, BSBA in Finance, BSBA in Intercultural Business, BSBA in Management, BSBA in Marketing, BSBA-Undecided or an Intercultural Business Accelerated MBA. That program is a 4+1 offering that allows students to earn the bachelor’s degree beginning MBA studies in their senior years and the MBA in one year of additional study.

There is a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science, bachelor’s degrees in American politics, apologetics, and art.

The Department of Physical Education, Wellness and Sport offers several undergraduate and professional degrees including the athletic coaching minor and the athletic training professional program that is a three-year or six-semester degree.

There are undergraduate degrees in chemistry, chemical physics, education, cybersecurity, and other disciplines including music.

The Bachelor of Music degree is earned in several areas including the Bachelor of Music in Commercial Music. This degree includes the Core Study of Commercial Music Theory and Ear Training, Music Production and Audio Engineering, Improvisation Techniques and Music Business Concepts. The program also includes ensemble experiences and music lessons on a primary and a secondary instrument as well as internships and areas of emphasis.

There is a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity and bachelor’s in social science or family science degrees. The family science degrees may be earned with an emphasis in pre-child life, family ministry, pre-counseling, globalization, urbanization and justice, or sociology. The department also houses three minors.

Master’s programs at Union University include the Master of Science in Biology, which can be earned in one of two tracks: pre-professional and general biology. The pre-professional track is for people who want to specialize in health-related areas. Both programs contain 30 credit-hours and can be completed in three terms.

The Master of Science in Biology, Conservation Biology is for those individuals who want to enhance their careers or prepare for doctoral study. It requires a project with extensive research that leads to a thesis.

There is a Master of Accountancy degree and an MBA program as well. The Education Department houses many master’s programs including the Master of Arts in Education which is for students with undergraduate degrees in other disciplines who want to enter the teaching profession. The Master of Education degree has one focus area: Institutional Leadership. Students interested in that program must have at least three years of teaching experience. There is a Master of Urban Education, an Ed.S. (Educational Specialist) program and a Doctor of Education.

The nursing program at Union University contains the Master of Science in Nursing, the Doctor of Nursing Practice and three postgraduate certificates in nursing. Students may also complete the RN-to-MSN degree program on one of three tracks: Nursing Education, Nursing Administration or Nurse Practitioner.

Additionally, there is a dual degree, the MSN/MBA and graduate degrees in pharmacy, theology, and missions.

Online degree programs at the school include associate programs; a degree completion avenue; The MBA; a Master of Christian Studies and a Master of Arts in Education, Library Information Specialist; a Master of Education degree, and a BSN-to-MSN degree.

There are two online doctoral education programs: the Ed.D., Education Specialist or the Ed.D.

Blended programs include The RN-to-MSN program, a Doctor of Nursing certificate, an RN-to-DND in Executive Leadership, Nursing Practice, or Nurse Anesthesia.

About Union University

This private Christian school in Jackson, Tennessee, was founded in 1823 as the Jackson Male Academy. It changed its name to the Southwestern Baptist University and then, shortly afterward, to Union University. In 2008, the school was hit for the second time in five years by a tornado, the last one being an EF-4.

Union University has three campuses: The primary campus is in Jackson, another in Germantown and the third in Hendersonville.

The school is ranked by the US News and World Report as 185th of National Universities. It is selective, admitting only 57 percent of applicants. Most classes have fewer than 20 students, and the student-to-faculty ratio is 9:1. Union has an impressive 61 percent four-year graduation rate.

Union University Application Requirements

Students applying as first-time freshmen should complete the online application form. This school does not accept the Common Application. They should arrange for Union University to receive their official high school transcripts and official standardized test scores. There is a non-refundable $35 application fee.

Graduate students apply online to their program of study. There is an application fee of $35 as well. Students should arrange for the university to receive all transcripts of undergraduate coursework as well as any required test scores. Individual programs have additional required documents, so applicants should check departmental web pages.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for undergraduates at Union University averages $16,740 per semester. Additionally, room-and-board and fees bring the total to $22,355 per semester. This figure does not include materials and books and personal expenses.

Graduate tuition at Union averages $9,522.

The university stresses the completion of the FAFSA as early as possible in the application process. Students who complete a school application are automatically considered for many school scholarships. Besides state and federal grants and loans, the school offers several scholarships. Because this is a Baptist school, students may find that their home churches will assist them financially.

There are departmental awards and many outside scholarships available as well.

While the use of credit cards should be avoided, taking a part-time job or a work-study opportunity is another way to finance a degree program from Union University.
