About SUNY Cortland
SUNY Cortland was established in 1868. Originally, it was named the Cortland Normal School. This campus was located downtown in Cortland. In 1919, the building burned down. Just a few years later, in 1923, the institution opened again in a new building location. The campus continued to experience new expansion and development throughout the years. By 1941, the Board of Regents officially reinstated the college and granted it a four-year status. In 1948, the campus joined the State University of New York system and became SUNY Cortland. Today, SUNY Cortland enrolls 6,295 undergraduate students and 539 graduate students for a grand student body of 6,834 students.
SUNY Cortland has been dubbed as an affordable school that is of high quality and top value. Students are encouraged to experience life on the job. SUNY Cortland offers over 9,000 unique internship opportunities for students to engage in. Every year, the SUNY system awards nearly 100,000 degrees. Many of the students who obtain their SUNY diplomas stay in New York city for employment. Altogether, the SUNY system hosts more than 4,000 undergraduate majors to choose from.

SUNY Cortland Application Requirements
First-year undergraduate students should complete and submit an online application, official high school transcripts or GED scores, SAT or ACT scores, a personal essay or statement, a letter of recommendation from a teacher or a counselor and a $50 application fee.
Graduate students should consult their program of choice for exact application requirements. Some of the basic documents include a completed application, official transcripts from an accredited institution, a resume, an educational statement that highlights professional goals, and two letters of recommendation. Graduate students must submit a $65 application fee. GPA scores and test scores like GRE, GMAT or MCAT scores should be prepared for submission depending on the program. International students will have to supply English language proficiency scores.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergraduate students who are residents of the state and living on-campus will pay $21,506 per year. For students who are residents of the state and living off-campus, tuition will be $8,806. Students who are non-residents of the state and residing on-campus will pay $31,416. Non-resident students who choose to live off-campus will pay $18,716.
Graduate students who are residents of the state and living off-campus will pay a tuition of $13,046. Students who are non-residents and living off-campus will pay $14,836. All tuition costs include the price of miscellaneous fees, room & board and a meal plan. Students who live off-campus will only have to pay fees.
SUNY Cortland provides 39% of first-year students with financial aid in the form of federal grants and scholarships. In grants, students can receive up to $4,384. Students who receive scholarships are awarded up to $1,995.
SUNY Cortland is a member of a larger school organization system. Although the system is big, SUNY Cortland is a medium-sized school that will provide you with the attention and education quality you deserve.
