St. Lawrence University offers its students the opportunity to major in a wide variety of topics like physics, English, Italian studies, and public health. The university has several undergraduate degrees, a handful of pre-professional programs, a few combined degrees, and a graduate program in educational leadership. The university’s most popular programs include social sciences, business, management, marketing, biology, psychology, and communication.

For pre-professional programs, students can enroll in pre-dentistry, pre-law, pre-seminary, pre-veterinary, or pre-medical programs. For combined degrees, students can choose from engineering, nursing, pharmacy, an ROTC program, or a 4+1 Master of Business Administration. Programs beyond a bachelor’s degree at St. Lawrence University may require extra application materials and have class prerequisites.

Students who want to study online at St. Lawrence University may do so for some of the classes offered, but the university doesn’t yet offer fully online degrees. One of the truly unique features of St. Lawrence University is its sustainability program, which is a special, interdisciplinary program where students will take Sustainability Leadership 1 and Sustainability Leadership 2, as well as a 5-credit practicum and a series of elective courses. Some of the available classes in sustainability at the university include Natural World, Landscape Ecology, Literary Harvest, and Papermaking: A Sustainable Practice.

For students interested in the sole graduate program at St. Lawrence University, students will apply to the Department of Education and its Master of Education degree. The program is offered in a full-time and part-time format, so students who are already employed can attend classes. Many classes are offered in the evening, so students can maintain their job and attend school, too. Students must have a 3.0 GPA for their undergraduate work, but they can apply under provisional status if they can demonstrate the potential for success in the program.

About St. Lawrence University

St. Lawrence University was established in 1856 and is a private college in the town of Canton in New York. The school has around 2,400 students enrolled with about 100 of those students enrolled in graduate-level programs. The founders of the university were from the Universalist Church, which eventually became a liberal Protestant religion called Unitarianism. Today, the school is non-denominational in its affiliation with faith.

The school’s official colors are scarlet and brown, and the university has a popular NCAA Division I hockey team. The school’s teams are nicknamed the Saints. At the turn of the 21st century, the university saw a variety of construction projects take shape that helped the school expand. In addition to new buildings, the school also had some of its buildings renovated. The university also has a large library of 96,000 square feet.

St. Lawrence University Accreditation Details

St. Lawrence University has earned regional accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, which means students who attend the university are eligible for federal student aid should they choose to apply. Accreditation also allows students to transfer their credits to and from St. Lawrence University.

New York State also requires all programs offered by colleges to be registered with the New York State Education Department, and the university has fulfilled this obligation. For individual programs, some of the degrees in teacher education at St. Lawrence University have been awarded accreditation by the Inquiry Brief Commission of Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. This accreditation is slated to last from November 2013 to November 2020.

St. Lawrence University Application Requirements

St. Lawrence University receives around 6,500 applications each year and accepts around half of its applicants. Application items required include the Common Application, an application fee of $60, and an official copy of the student’s high school transcripts. Applicants must also submit standardized test scores, a letter of recommendation from a counselor, and two academic recommendations from high school teachers.

Students can apply for a fee waiver to reduce the cost of the application fee, and they may also submit a resume, which is optional. Students should submit their applications by the official deadline of February 1. The university recommends that students then apply for specialty scholarships available directly from the school. Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition and fees for a year of study at the undergraduate level at St. Lawrence University are $56,360. The school is a private institution, so all students pay the same rate regardless of residency status. Students who live on campus will pay $7,880 for a room and $6,750 for a meal plan. Other fees a student may need to pay include a $395 yearly student activities fee and yearly class dues of $10. Graduate students at St. Lawrence University will pay by the credit hour. The rate is $1,173 per credit hour, and students will also pay a registration fee of $40 each semester. Most classes are three credits each and cost a total of $3,519 per course. The rate for summer classes for graduate students is the same as the rate for the fall and winter sessions.
