The Bachelor of Arts in International Security and Conflict Resolution provides students with a sophisticated understanding of political, moral and socio-economic dimensions of global conflict. Students are exposed to a wide range of ideological, regional and cultural perspectives in order to create individuals who are informed global citizens able to examine claims made by public officials and others to discover underlying realities. Classes may include Global Systems, Our Global Future, and Conflict Resolution. Students must also complete a thesis.

The online Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education offered through the College of Education is designed for those who are inspired to be responsive and innovative teachers to students in secondary education. The program focuses on inquiry-based education as well as to participate in cutting-edge research. Students are able to examine and develop curricula for use in the classroom while also completing a high-quality capstone project.

The College of Engineering offers a joint doctoral program in aerospace and mechanical engineering. Students must complete courses at both San Diego State University and the University of California San Diego. Students must successfully complete a Doctoral Qualifying Examination as well as research and defend a dissertation. The examination is oral and covers four areas selected by the advising committee.

The professional certificate in Civil Sitework Construction offered through the College of Extended Studies equips students with career advancement skills in the area of site work development. The program is available online. Students gain skills in excavation, site utilities, and roadway improvements. They also gain an understanding of civil blueprint reading, estimating and construction equipment utilization. Courses may include Estimating Civil Construction, Contract Documents and Construction Law, Planning and Scheduling as well as Practical Applications of Civil Sitework.

The College of Health and Human Services offers a Master of Science in Regulatory Affairs that provides a background in required regulatory affairs used to address federal and state regulatory statutes with an emphasis on the Food and Drug Administration. Students gain an understanding of drug discovery, development, testing, and manufacturing, as well as post-marketing surveillance. They gain an understanding of biologics, drug commercialization, and practical applications to the development of drugs. Courses required may include Food and Drug Law, Current Good Manufacturing Processes, Ethics for Life Science Professionals as well as Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, and Medical Device Industries.

About San Diego State University

In 1897, San Diego State University began over a downtown drugstore and was originally known as the San Diego Normal School. The main goal of the school was to educate teachers. The school soon moved to newly constructed buildings on Park Boulevard, but soon outgrew that campus as well.

During the 1920s, community leaders launched a campaign to build a new campus and, in 1931, the school moved into seven Mission Revival-style buildings. It was renamed San Diego State Teachers College. In 1934, the school became San Diego State College. In 1960, San Diego State College joined the California State College System and it gained university status in the 1970s.

Today, San Diego State University has an enrollment of over 36,000 and is ranked among the top 100 public universities in the country by US News & World Report.

San Diego State University Application Requirements

Applicants to the Bachelor of Arts in International Security and Conflict Resolution must provide official high school transcripts as well as official ACT or SAT scores. Transfer applicants must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.

In order to apply to the Master of Teaching in Secondary Education or the Master of Science in Regulatory Affairs, applicants must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. They must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher and must also provide official GRE scores. A statement of purpose and letter of recommendation are also required.

Applicants to the dual degree in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, applicants must hold a master’s degree or higher and must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. They must provide letters of recommendation, a current resume and a statement of purpose.

San Diego State University Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition at San Diego State University is $2,549 per credit hour and graduate tuition is $2,066 per credit hour. Teaching credential candidates pay $2,816 per credit hour and doctorate students pay $6,803 per credit hour. The total cost for the Certificate in Civil Sitework is $3,240.

Undergraduate students may be offered grants, scholarships or loans to offset the cost of tuition. If they are attending on campus, they may be offered work-study programs. Graduate students are offered loans but may seek grants or scholarships from outside agencies. They may also be offered assistantships or fellowships if they are attending on campus. All students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify for assistance.
