Degree Programs Available at Monroe College

Monroe College offers online degree programs and traditional degree programs on three campuses. Undergrads on the Bronx Campus can choose from education, information technology, nursing, criminal justice and health programs. The college also offers tracks through the School of Business and Accounting, including an associate degree in accounting and a bachelor’s degree in sport management. Students on the New Rochelle Campus can enroll in programs through the School of Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts to earn degrees in hospitality management. The university also offers classes in St. Lucia.
Nearly as many options are available online for undergrads. Students can major in criminal justice and earn an associate degree before they enter the bachelor’s program. This online program prepares students to work as counselors, police officers and legal clerks. Some of the other majors available for online undergrads include hospitality management, business administration, accounting, medical administration, human services and hospitality management. The college also offers an online Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Monroe has a 100 percent passage rate among students taking the licensed practical nursing exam and a 92 percent passage rate for those who took the registered nursing exam.
Through the King Graduate School, the college can help students complete their master’s degrees. A general Master of Business Administration (MBA) is available, but students can customize this program with concentrations in finance, supply chain management, hospitality or six other fields. Some of the classes in the MBA program include Graduate Research and Critical Analysis, Strategic Marketing, Managerial Finance and Organizational Behavior and Leadership in the 21st Century. The college also requires that MBA students take electives from the concentrations that they choose.
Five of the college’s graduate degree programs are available online too. In the hospitality management program, students learn how to work in operations that range from casinos and resorts to museums and convention centers. Global Tourism in Emerging Markets, Hospitality Management Information Systems, Hospitality Human Resource Management and Tourism Marketing and Branding are classes in this program. In the Master of Public Health (MPH) program, students can apply with a degree in public health from Monroe College or another school. Majors take classes on community health education, health promotion, health marketing, and health care management. Criminal justice is another field that graduate students can study online from Monroe College.
About Monroe College
Monroe College is a private college in New York that has multiple campuses and offers online courses. Established in 1933 as the Monroe School of Business by Mildred King, it was the first business school for young women in New York City. It became a junior college in the 1970s called the Monroe Business Institute. The institute would later close its old campus and open a new one now called the Bronx Campus. Known as Monroe College since 1990, it added a second campus in New Rochelle and constructed on-campus housing for those students. A third campus later opened in St. Lucia. Though Monroe is now coeducational, female students still outnumber its male students. Monroe College now has an enrollment of more than 6,700 undergrads alone, which grew in part due to the online programs it added to its catalog.
Monroe College Accreditation Details
The New York Board of Regents granted Monroe the approval necessary to offer a BSN program. This same board approved the college’s licensed practical nursing program too. All other programs offered by the college have accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The MSCHE awarded the college the regional accreditation needed for students to access the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and to transfer their credits to Monroe.
Monroe College Application Requirements
Future undergrads applying to Monroe need to meet one of several deadlines. The college has a jumpstart deadline of the third week of November for students who want to get a fast response. It also has early action deadlines of December 15 and November 15 as well as a final deadline of April 15. As long as the college has space remaining in its freshmen class, it will change to a rolling admissions policy after the middle of May. Students will apply online with the Monroe Application, which includes an essay requirement. They also need to provide their transcripts and arrange for an admissions interview. Monroe also asks for an application fee. Students applying for scholarships need to provide a standardized test score also.
The graduate admissions process is quite similar. Students need to write a 500-word essay and upload it to the King Graduate School Application. They are also responsible for sending in their college/undergraduate transcripts, a resume and two letters of recommendation. Students can pay the $50 application fee with a check or money order sent through the mail. The college also accepts cash payments and bank transfers. Monroe has similar requirements for adult learners applying and students seeking entrance to an online program. They will need to apply online, pick the program that appeals to them, submit their documents and pay an application fee.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Part-time undergrads attending Monroe College pay $275 in fees each semester and $615 per credit hour for their classes. Students who take nine or more credits pay $550 in fees. Once they take at least 12 credits, they pay the full-time rate of $7,380 per term. Monroe charges a $150 application fee for students who want to live on-campus and charges other rates based on which meal plans and dorm rooms that students pick. Some of the financial aid that undergrads can use at Monroe include the federal work-study program, federal and alternative loans, grants and scholarships.
Grad students pay the same housing application fee and fees of $275, $550 or $750 per semester based on which programs they choose. The college charges a $300 rate for each foundation course that they take, which covers the prerequisites of the graduate programs. Students pay $868 per credit hour if they take less than nine credits and $7,812 per semester if they take more than nine credits. The total cost that they pay will depend on the number of credit hours required in their programs. Graduate students can get loans and grants or work for the college.
