Johnson & Wales University is located in Providence, Rhode Island, and has operated since 1914. It was founded by two women named Mary T. Wales and Gertrude I. Johnson, who established the institution as a business school. Almost 13,000 students attend the university, which offers programs in areas like arts & sciences, engineering & design, health & wellness, and media communications, as well as business.
When the school first opened, it had just a single student and one typewriter. Today, there are satellite campuses in other states like North Carolina, Colorado, and Florida. Regional accreditation for Johnson & Wales University has been granted by the New England Commission on Higher Education. Johnson & Wales University Application Requirements
Students entering as first-year students or undergraduate transfer students must submit their high school or college transcripts for review. Students can also submit SAT or ACT scores along with their application, but standardized tests are only mandatory for home-schooled applicants. Students should have a minimum average of C+ in their high school classes for a successful application. Some programs require higher GPAs, so students should check with their chosen program for extra requirements.
Prospective graduate students should complete the graduate application, send official transcripts from their institution, and write a statement of purpose that offers details on the student’s educational goals and motivation for enrolling in graduate school. Two letters of recommendation and a current resume are also required, and students may need to submit extra items as required by their intended program.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergraduate tuition starts with a $360 fee charged to all first-year students. International students will pay a student services fee of $1,200 per year. Enrollees who require health insurance will pay an annual fee of $1,998. For overall tuition costs, the rate is $34,376 per year. Students interested in a room and meal plan may pay anywhere from $8,100 to $12,820. The total is based on the housing and meal choices of the student.
Graduate students pay a per-credit rate associated with their program. MBA and MS students pay $2,358 per three-credit course or $786 per credit. MAT and MED students pay $1,602 per three-credit course or $534 per credit hour. Graduate students who need to take undergraduate prerequisites during their graduate career will pay $1,038 per three-credit course. The Doctor of Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) is $5,562 per six-credit course.
Students at Johnson & Wales University who want to qualify for financial aid must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The university indicates that this application is available as early as October 1. Students should apply as soon as possible even if they have yet to apply to the university.
