About Independence University
Part of a family of non-profit colleges and universities, Independence University is operated by the Center for Excellence in Higher Education which got its start in 1891. Initially, the school was known as the California College for Health Sciences. An innovator, the school began offering distance education in 1978 and was renamed Independence University in 2005. The school merged with Stevens-Henager College in 2010.
Today, Independence University focuses on online education with a mission to see each student succeed. Despite being an online university, Independence offers the same student support and service found in traditional on-campus learning.
Independence University Accreditation Details
Independence University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. Accreditation indicates that the school has the resources to meet its stated goals and objectives. During periodic reviews, if any areas are identified as needing improvement, the school agrees to address them as quickly as possible. Independence University Admissions Requirements
Applicants to Independence University must complete a short career questionnaire and submit to an interview with a financial planner. Once the career assessment is reviewed by an admissions counselor, the applicant must interview with the Director of Admissions who will determine if they can be admitted. Applicants must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Credit may be offered for work experience, military experience, advanced placement courses, and college-level examinations.
Independence University Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition is $16,968 per year and includes all books and supplies as well as a new tablet and laptop, which becomes the student’s after graduation.
Financial aid is available in the form of grants and scholarships, which do not need to be repaid, as well as student loans, which must be repaid upon graduation. All students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), regardless of income, in order to be eligible for financial aid. Independence University also accepts military and employment benefits.
