About Drury University

Drury University is a private university that offers a liberal arts curriculum. Established in 1873 as Springfield College, it modeled itself after other Christian colleges in the nation at the time. It had an affiliation with the United Church of Christ and the Disciples of Christ through the Christian Church. The college retained that affiliation after becoming a private university. Though it used the name Drury College for years, it changed its name after earning university status.

U.S. News and World Report added Drury to its list of the great colleges at great prices list and ranked it as high as number eight on a list of the best American schools. Time Magazine gave it an honorable mention when listing the best liberal arts schools, and Princeton Review included the university among the top green colleges in the nation. Nearly 50% of its students sign up for study abroad programs and travel overseas, which they can only do after taking foreign language classes. Drury has an enrollment of more than 5,400 students today.

Drury University Accreditation Details

Both the music and the teaching programs offered by Drury University have accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Most of the business courses and programs have accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AASCB) or the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Drury also has accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), which is why it can grant financial aid to those who need it and accept credits that students earned from schools that have the same accreditation.

Drury University Application Requirements

Though prospective undergrad and graduate students must complete the Drury application, the university has other requirements for those students too. The university encourages students to submit their applications at least two to three weeks before the start of a semester, which gives it time to process each application. There is no set deadline for undergrads. Those students will complete the essay on the application and then submit the completed application through the Drury website. They will also submit a preliminary transcript and then a full or official transcript after they finish high school. Other requirements include an ACT/SAT score and a college transcript if the student needs to transfer credits to Drury.

Graduate students often need to submit their applications by the deadline listed on the department’s website. Education majors who want to start in the fall need to submit their applications and get all required information to the university by the sixth of August. That information includes an official transcript that shows the applicant earned a bachelor’s degree and two letters of recommendation. Drury asks students to fill out a recommendation request form online. It will send letters to the references listed and ask them to send back the completed forms. Most programs also ask for a one-page letter that serves as an essay and statement of goals. There is a $25 application fee for both undergrads and graduate students too.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The cost that students at Drury University pay will depend on how they take classes. Traditional undergrads are day students who pay $27,350 every year for full-time enrollment or $920 per credit hour for part-time enrollment. They also pay around $3,400 a semester for room and board. Drury offers a cheaper meal plan for commuters who want to eat on the campus. Online students pay only $308 for any of the undergrad courses they take. The cost for graduate students, both traditional and online, vary across programs. The Master of Education and Master of Art programs charge $359 per credit hour, but other programs can charge as much as $699 per credit hour.

Any student who cannot afford the Drury cost of attendance can apply for financial aid. Each student will use the FAFSA as a way to get federal and state aid, including the Pell grant that goes to undergrads in need and the loans that are available for all students. PLUS loans go to both the parents of undergrads and any graduate student with a higher need, and those students can also qualify for standard student loans. Drury also offers scholarships for online students and traditional undergrads and graduate students. It only awards scholarships to those who demonstrate need on the FAFSA. Some scholarships only go to those with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who also received an acceptance letter from the university. All the financial aid available from Drury University offers help for online and traditional students in need.
