About Concordia University Irvine
Concordia University Irvine is a private university in Irvine, California. Dr. Victor Behnken came up with the idea for the university while working for the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS). In the early 1960s, the organization agreed to establish the new college, which opened in 1876 as Christ College Irvine. After joining the Concordia University System in 1993, it became Concordia University Irvine. As there are other campuses in that system, the university often uses the CUI abbreviation. It still uses the original Christ College name for its seminary. The CUI campus in Irvine is just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean and a short drive from Los Angeles. CUI now offers more than 30 degree programs for undergrads, nursing majors, and graduate students as well as programs designed to help adults finish the bachelor’s degrees they started at other schools.
Concordia University Irvine Accreditation Details
All of the nursing programs offered by CUI have accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The other degree programs available are covered by the regional accreditation that the university holds, which comes from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). This accreditation comes from two divisions within that organization that are responsible for accrediting junior/community and senior colleges. WASC accreditation gives students the chance to get financial aid packages when they access and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Concordia University Irvine Application Requirements
Traditional undergrads applying to CUI need to meet one of the application deadlines. CUI has a November 15 early action deadline and a second early action deadline of February 15. It asks students to apply by the end of July to meet the rolling admissions deadline. Incoming students have an average ACT/SAT score of 22/1014 and a high school grade point average of 3.42. When they apply, they need to submit the online application and then submit both a high school transcript and an ACT or SAT score. The university has the same requirements for students applying to an online bachelor’s degree program.
Graduate students can request more information and find out what requirements each program has. They can also speak with an admissions counselor before they apply. Many programs have an application deadline near the middle of August but ask that students submit all required documents by this deadline too. Those documents may include a transcript that shows the applicant had a GPA of 2.75 or higher and a bachelor’s degree. Those with a lower GPA can submit a petition letter that explains why they’re grades were lower and why CUI should accept them.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Though CUI offers financial aid packages for students, the university encourages them to look at how much it costs them to take classes each year. Undergrads pay $17,350 every semester for tuition and another $350 for their fees. If they choose to live on the CUI campus, they’ll also pay an average of $3,255 for their housing costs and $2,395 for a meal plan each semester. The university awards $58 million in financial aid to 97 percent of its students every year. Undergrads can get scholarships based on their merit, including academic scholarships of up to $19,000 a year. They can also qualify for work-study, grants, and loans.
Graduate students attending CUI pay the rates set by their degree programs. This comes to $950 per unit for students in the MBA program and $570 per unit in an education program. The university recommends that students look at the costs of each program before they apply. These students can get unsubsidized federal loans and alternative student loans as well as some grants and scholarships. All of the degree programs available at Concordia University Irvine include financial aid opportunities for returning and incoming students.
