The University of Nebraska – Lincoln offers both online and traditional degree programs for students today. There are two completion programs designed for students who earned some college credits from another school. It accepts students into these programs who attended college in the 1990s and earlier. The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Early Childhood Education in a Mobile Society looks at the education methods and techniques that teachers use as they work with young children. A Bachelor of Applied Science is also available online.
Though traditional undergrads can enroll in the same programs on the university’s campus, they also have access to other majors. In the film studies program, students take classes and study the films created by directors and studios in the past. They learn how to critique those films, identify the themes presented and study the methods that the markers used. The grassland ecology and management program can prepare students for working in government agencies to manage and preserve grassland spaces through conservation efforts. Some of the other unique majors for undergrads include insect science, meteorology, turfgrass and landscape management, and earth and space science education.
More than 30 of the university’s graduate programs are available for online students. The visual impairments program includes an on-campus residency but allows students to complete this requirement at several locations. It is suitable for teachers who want to work with students who are blind or have visual problems. In the professional journalism program, students improve their writing skills and learn how to research subjects and find sources for their work. The university offers an online program in family financial planning for students who want to help families plan for the future. Some of the other programs for online graduate students include beef cattle production, applied science, business administration, world language teaching and science for educators.
Graduate students can choose from traditional and on-campus programs too. The agricultural economics program looks at how the agricultural industry makes money and how social and other factors can impact their profits. In the architecture program, students become skilled at drafting blueprints and creating work for their clients. A similar program is available in regional and community planning, which looks at how to make changes to cities to build parks and structures. The modern languages and literature program allows students to study books and look at how the writer’s language and culture will affect their work. The University of Nebraska – Lincoln is a public university in Lincoln, Nebraska. UNL has regional accreditation, which means that the university’s students can apply for financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). That accreditation comes from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and also allows students to get credit from UNL if they transfer credits into the university. UNL has accreditation from other groups too, including the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, National Association of Schools of Music, Teacher Education Accreditation Council and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
University of Nebraska – Lincoln Application Requirements
When applying to UNL, prospective students must submit academic transcripts from their high schools and any colleges that they attended. This includes the transcripts that show the college credits they earned in high school. There is a $45 application fee that the university lets students pay via a check or credit card. Students must request that the testing boards submit their ACT or SAT scores too. Those who want to apply for a scholarship must also write a 500-word essay that covers the student’s goals, leadership experience and any community service he or she did. The UNL application deadline for incoming freshmen is December first.
Tuition and Financial Aid
UNL undergrads pay $800 per credit hour as a nonresident or $24,000 in tuition each year. Nebraska residents pay only $252 per credit hour, which comes to $7,560 per year. The fees they pay come close to $1,900 every year too. Students who live on the UNL campus will also pay an average of $11,830 for room and board each year. UNL offers several scholarships that have application deadlines of February first to March first. They can get $500 each year up to awards that cover their full tuition. Students also get financial aid based on the FAFSA, including grants and loans.
Graduate students pay a base rate of $332 per credit hour if they live in Nebraska. Residents taking online classes will pay $357 per credit hour. Nonresidents pay $960 per credit hour for the on-campus classes they take and $652 per credit hour in an online program. Some UNL programs charge extra, including the architecture and business programs. Students pay between $400 and more than $1,000 per credit hour in those programs. The university asks students to fill out the FAFSA with the UNL code to get any of the loans offered by the federal government, including PLUS and standard loans.
