St. John’s University offers more than 66 undergraduate degrees with most of those degrees earned on its campuses in New York and a small number earned by students via online study.

About St. John’s University

St. John’s University is a private college in New York City that was founded in 1870 by the Vincentian Fathers, which is part of the Catholic Church. The school was once located in Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, but it would eventually move to Queens and build on the site of a former golf course.

There are additional campuses in Manhattan and on Staten Island, as well as an overseas location in Rome, Italy. Within the university are six schools from which approximately 21,000 students take their classes. The school’s official colors are red, white, and blue, and the students play as the Red Storm in NCAA Division I games. The school is part of the Big East Conference.

St. John’s University Application Requirements

Application requirements for St. John’s University include official high school transcripts, a personal essay, and the official St. John’s Application or the Common Application. Students are also strongly encouraged to submit letters of recommendation. Students who wish to study fine arts must submit a portfolio of work, as well as an additional application for the Fine Arts Scholarship administered by the university.

Other programs also have additional requirements for admission. For example, the six-year Pharm.D. program requires a signature on the Pharmacy Technical Standards document, an additional personal essay, and a resume that provides details on the student’s extracurricular activities. St. John’s University is a private university and charges the same tuition for all students, but tuition amounts differ based on the location where a student attends classes. Tuition rates for some programs differ slightly. For example, the total cost for enrollment in the School of Business is $43,690, and the total cost for students in the pharmacy program is $47,974. Students who simply want to audit a class will pay the same as degree-seeking students. Meanwhile, graduate students will pay a rate based on their major. Degrees from the School of Education are $1,265 per credit, and those from the College of Business are $1,280 per credit.
