Auburn University is one of the largest universities in Alabama and has a large number of degree programs in several fields. The alphabetical listing of programs in Auburn’s twelve colleges ranges from accounting and agronomy to veterinary medicine and wildlife management. There are more than 93 degrees in undergraduate studies alone.
In the College of Agriculture, for instance, students can earn degrees in agriculture business and economics, agriculture communications, agriculture science, crop and soil science, animal sciences, applied biotechnology, biosystems engineering, environmental sciences, fisheries, aquaculture and aquatic science, food science, horticulture and poultry science.
The Bachelor of Science in Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Science is available in three options: Professional Medicine, Fisheries and Aquaculture and Marine Resources. The Professional Medicine option is actually a pre-professional program that prepares students for advanced study in veterinary medicine. The program contains 120 credit-hours including university core in areas like history and writing plus fundamental courses in biology, chemistry, and physics along with the appropriate labs. There are courses in calculus, fisheries, limnology, and economics.
There is also a graduate program in this field that can be earned as a MAq ( Master of Aquaculture) and MS or a Ph.D. in Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures. The MAq is a non-thesis program that requires 40 hours beyond the bachelor’s degree and the completion of a three-to-five-month internship. The Master of Science is a 30 credit-hour program that consists of 21 hours in the major and nine hours in the concentration. There is also a required research component and a thesis. The Ph.D. consists of 60 credit hours in research and advanced study plus the completion and presentation of a dissertation on the research project.
One of the undergraduate degrees in the College of Liberal Arts is the Bachelor of Arts in History which can also be completed as a minor. The major contains 120 credit-hours including 41 in core curriculum. It requires two semesters of a foreign language, liberal art electives, two foundational history courses, three courses of higher-level courses and two more courses on non-US and Non-European topics. The program also includes electives and a senior thesis. Some of the same courses are included in the 15-credit-hour minor.
The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work trains students to become generalist practitioners and also prepares them for more advanced study and specialization. It contains 120 credit-hours. Students apply to the program after their freshman year. The social work program includes courses such as Introduction to Social Work, History of Social Welfare, Human Behavior in the Social Environment and others. Several practicums are required along with a senior internship and the Senior Integrated Seminar.
The Master of Social Work is available in either Clinical Traditional or Advanced Standing format. The traditional format is a full-time program that contains 61 credit-hours and two field experiences. The first internship is a 432 hour generalist experience, and the second is a 512-hour advanced clinical placement. The Advanced Standing option is intended for students with a bachelor’s degree in social work. It contains 39 credits and requires one 512-hour advanced clinical internship.
There are undergraduate degrees in business administration and accounting. In addition, there is a MAcc program that can be completed on campus or online and contains 30 semester-hours plus a two-and-a-half-day campus residency. It teaches students additional skills including technology and communication areas and prepares them for the CPA exam. During the spring semester, students take an additional six hours of coursework and the Auburn Becker CPA Review. Before graduation, students sit for all four parts of the CPA exam. There is also a Graduate Certificate in Accounting which is completed online. It consists of 18 hours of study and prepares students to teach at the college level or to earn the MAcc with only four courses remaining.
Students can earn an MEd/MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, a Ph.D. in Counselor Educator, an MA or a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, an MS in Psychology or a Ph.D. in Psychology. There are numerous other major and minor programs, several of which are available online. Additionally, there are several certificates such as the Graduate Certificate in Brewing Science and Operations or the Certificate in Geographic Information Science.
About Auburn University
Auburn is a land, sea, space grant school founded in 1856 as East Alabama Male College. The private school, affiliated with the Methodist Episcopalian Church, became the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama in 1872. In 1960 its name was changed to Auburn University.
The school emphasizes engineering programs, but business, management, and health professions are popular majors as well. The school consists of fifteen colleges which house more than 140 majors. The university has a student body of more than 30,000 students. The student-to-faculty ratio is 19:1.

Auburn University Application Requirements
Students applying to the university as first-time freshmen apply online. There is a $50 non-refundable application fee. Students must also arrange for their high schools to submit their official transcripts and for the testing agencies to submit the official scores for the SAT or ACT.
Students applying to graduate programs apply online and pay the $50 application fee as well. They must submit the official transcripts of any undergraduate coursework they completed and The GRE or GMAT scores, if they are required by the department which houses their desired degree. Most programs require a written statement of purpose, letters of recommendation and a resume.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The cost of attending Auburn University as an underclassman is estimated at $16,098 per semester. Graduate costs are estimated at $16, 104. Students in professional programs like Pharmacy pay the semester tuition and an additional fee. In the case of pharmacy students, that fee is $5,283 per semester. Online students pay $630 per credit-hour.
Students should complete the FAFSA form and an Auburn application for financial aid as soon as possible. Alabama has some state grants for higher education, and students should also apply for these as soon as they can because funds are limited. The federal government awards student loans through the FAFSA program, and the university also has a loan program. Auburn scholarships are available for freshmen and transfer students. There are general scholarships, departmental scholarships, and scholarships for those in specific activities. The school also administers a number of private scholarships funded by individuals and organizations. There are external scholarships funded through corporate bodies and other entities that are listed on the Internet.
