Since 1985, Albertus Magnus College has offered the FLEX Program to add 27 adult degrees with fast, eight-week East Hartford or online courses to 42 traditional bachelor’s and 19 master’s options. For example, the 120-credit B.S. in Personal Financial Planning is Connecticut’s only CFP-registered online program logging into Moodle at a 1:14 faculty-student ratio. Chaired by Dr. Patricia Yeaman, the B.A. in Sociology accepts up to 90 transfer credits for a 120-credit curriculum concentrated in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or Urban Studies. Only in New Haven, the 127-credit B.F.A. in Art utilizes Tagliatela Studio to foster creative talents in Arts Education, Art Therapy, Graphic Design, or Photography specializations.
Fulfilling LPC licensure, the M.S. in Clinical Counseling teaches evidence-based therapy techniques with 60-credit campus tracks for Mental Health or Addictions. About Albertus Magnus College
Albertus Magnus College was first chartered on July 13, 1925, after the Dominican Sisters of Saint Mary of the Springs, a Roman Catholic order of 650 members, acquired Rosary Hall. That September, Rev. Arthur Chandler welcomed an inaugural all-female class to Prospect Hill for Christ-centered training. Named for the Middle Ages theologian canonized by Pope Pius XI, Albertus Magnus expanded to its present 50-acre Edgerton Park campus in southern Connecticut in 1940. Twenty-nine years later, AMC created a Board of Trustees comprised 20 percent of Dominican friars. In 1985, Albertus Magnus College became coeducational and launched the FLEX Program for accelerated adult offerings. In 1990, Joe Alterman founded the Institute for Learning in Retirement that’s delivered 1,500 courses since. AMC’s first graduate degree, the M.A. in Liberal Studies, also began in 1992. Endowed for $7.9 million, Albertus Magnus College now inspires 500 full-time and 1,470 nontraditional students from eight states.
The U.S. News & World Report ranked Albertus Magnus the North’s 99th best college with the 222nd best online bachelor’s and 158th top online graduate business degrees nationally. On Niche, AMC boasts the second most conservative students, fourth top location, 12th best student life, and 15th most diversity in Connecticut. College Factual noticed AMC for America’s 145th best Catholic education, 196th best criminal justice program, and 142nd top social sciences degree. In 2016, Money magazine highlighted Albertus Magnus College as the #1 most improved for climbing 430 spots to 178th. Washington Monthly named AMC the country’s 359th best buck with the 349th highest master’s graduation rate. PayScale recorded the 521st best 20-year return on investment of $297,000. Online College Plan also placed the Albertus Magnus College FLEX Program within the top 20.
Albertus Magnus College Accreditation Details
On April 13, 2016, Albertus Magnus College had its Fifth-Year Interim Report accepted by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) to keep Level III accreditation valid through Spring 2021 under its 4th president, Dr. Marc Camille. Located 137 miles northeast via Interstate 84 in Burlington, this superb six-state Upper Atlantic accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to ensure AMC’s Federal Title-IV eligibility. Albertus also holds specialized accreditations, such as:

Albertus Magnus College Application Requirements
Getting into Albertus Magnus College is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because only 519 of the 780 Fall 2017 applicants were okayed for 67 percent acceptance. First-year Falcons must have soared through college-prep high school curricula or the GED exam. Having four units of both English and Mathematics is preferred. Advanced Placement courses with College Board scores of “3” or higher are counted. On average, freshmen present a 2.6 GPA, 980 SAT, and 24 ACT mark. Evening or online FLEX programs are reserved for adults age 22 or older who’ve gained work experience. Transfer credits aren’t required, but up to 90 accredited credits graded “C” or better are accepted. Non-native English speakers need a 213 TOEFL cBT or equivalent score. The Division of Professional & Graduate Studies seeks master’s applicants with minimum 2.8 GPAs during four-year baccalaureates. Prerequisites vary, such as 18 Art and 15 Psychology credits for the M.A. in Art Therapy. Master of Science in Education entrants need K-12 Connecticut certification. Taking entrance tests (GRE/GMAT) is wholly voluntary.
Albertus Magnus College has rolling admission, but the financial aid priority date is February 28th and the scholarship deadline is March 15th. The FLEX Program starts its eight-week online modules five times year-round for easy entry. Interested Falcons submit the Common Application or AMC Application for $35 ($50 if graduate) online. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, Albertus Magnus College is billing traditional full-time undergrads $15,785 per semester or $31,570 annually. Daytime programs come with the $15 registration fee, $170 activity fee, $60 technology fee, and $950 medical insurance fee each term. Living at the New Haven campus’ dorms like Dominican Hall adds $10,100 to $11,300 yearly. Customized meal plans for DeDominicis Dining Hall are $1,700 to $3,100 extra. AMC budgets $900 for textbooks and $6,310 for miscellaneous expenses. Traditional annual attendance equals $51,350 on-site and $38,984 at home. However, the FLEX Program charges online undergrads $1,575 per course. Graduate degrees typically cost $2,004 each course. The Online MBA price rises to $2,514 per course. The M.F.A. in Writing bills the most at $4,392 by course.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office in Aquinas Hall lifts 71 percent of AMC Falcons upward by gifting median assistance of $13,298 for $11.52 million total. Collegiate funds include the Roberta B. Willis Scholarship, Presidential Scholarship, Mohun Scholarship, St. Thomas Aquinas Scholarship, Deaveney Scholarship, Promise Award, St. Catherine of Siena Award, Legacy Award, Residential Award, St. Dominic Award, School Spirit Scholarship, Future Law Enforcement Scholarship, and Multi-Lingual Scholarship. Bachelor of Arts in Education majors apply for the Connecticut Minority Teacher Incentive Program until October 15th. The GEAR-UP III Grant offers $1,150 for Nutmeg State residents enrolled at least half-time. Research the Connecticut Independent College Student Grant, Capitol Scholarship, and Weisman Scholarship. Submit FAFSA forms coded 001374 for Federal Pell and FSEOG Grant consideration. Average amounts of $3,000 are earned with the Community Federal Work-Study (CFWS) Program. Albertus students also borrow the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan and Graduate PLUS Loan.
